This week in PGA One And Done pools, we get one of the big limited-field Signature Events, as the Tour heads to Bay Hill in Orlando for the Arnold Palmer Invitational.

This is also the first weekend in 2024 with two PGA events, as those golfers who did not get into the Arnold Palmer can play in the Puerto Rico Open. (We have a brief addendum on the Puerto Rico open at the bottom of this article if you also need to pick that event.)

Last Week’s One And Done Pick Results

  • Austin Eckroat won the Cognizant Classic, which had to extend into Monday morning. Eckroat was outside the top 30 in win odds entering the event (+15000) on FanDuel and was virtually unpicked across One And Done entries nationwide.
  • Min Woo Lee, who had public pick popularity in the 2% range, and was inside the top 5 in pick grades for many of our subscriber entries, was the highest-finishing commonly picked golfer in the field, and tied for 2nd place ($801,000).
  • Cameron Young, our highest-graded pick option in most pools, finished in a tie for 4th ($344,250), providing solid value in a week where the winner was likely unpicked.
  • Eric Cole was the most popular public pick (at around 15% on average) and he faltered right away and failed to make the cut.
  • Rory McIlroy, who was the betting favorite entering the event, finished tied for 21st, earning only $87,750. Saving McIlroy for larger-purse events was the right strategic move when he earned less than $100,000 here, and could have only maxxed out at $1,620,000.

2024 Arnold Palmer Invitational Pick Strategy: Purse Info

A first place pick at the Arnold Palmer Invitational is worth $4,000,000 to One And Done pool players, with a total prize purse of $20 million for the event.

That makes it one of the highest value events for a 1st place finish, behind only the Player’s Championship next week and maybe one of the Majors like the U.S. Open, depending on where that purse ends up in 2024.

  • It’s loaded. 23 of our top 30 ranked golfers are in the field, led by Scottie Scheffler.
  • The only eligible golfer (and highest-ranked non-LIV golfer) who is not playing in this event is Tony Finau.
  • Kurt Kitayama won the Arnold Palmer Invitational in a big surprise last year, making his debut at the event.
  • The rest of last year’s top five finishers are also back: Rory McIlroy, Harris English, Scheffler, Patrick Cantlay, and Jordan Spieth.
  • Besides Kitayama, Scheffler (2022), McIlroy (2018), and Jason Day (2016) are the only other golfers playing this year to have won at Bay Hill.
  • Two golfers now on the LIV Tour, Bryson DeChambeau and Tyrell Hatton, had won here in the last five seasons, and Tiger Woods historically dominated this event (8 wins).
