Data Grid Feature Tutorial

Our Data Grid provides a quick summary of a lot of key information for your weekly picks, with info for game winner and spread pools.

The Football Pick’em Data Grid provides you with win odds and popularity data for each week of the season, as well as against-the-spread data. You can access it on the top toolbar within the Football Pick’em Picks product.

When you enter the Data Grid, it will be set to the current week of the season. (If you want to see past week’s data, it is also available by clicking on the week number at the top of the page.

The Data Grid’s default setting is to show all available games, both college and NFL. If you wish to see NFL only, or college only, you can click on those options to show only those subsets of games.

Data Contained in the Data Grid

The Data Grid identifies each team, opponent, and whether the game is home, road, or neutral. It also includes both Game Winner Odds & Picks, and Point Spreads & Picks.

Game Winner Section

The following data is contained within the Game Winner Odds & Picks portion of the Data Grid:

  • The Vegas win odds (“Vegas”) based on conversion of money line odds from bookmakers;
  • PG Win Odds (“PG”), which are our win odds projections based on our models;
  • Public Pick Popularity (“Public”) which is the percentage of the public picking each team to win straight up, based on data collected from multiple sources;
  • “Difference” is the result of subtracting the pick popularity from the PG win odds (PG – public). A positive number means our win odds are higher than the public pick percentage, while a negative number means the public is picking a team at a higher rate than our win odds projections;

Point Spread Section

The following data is contained with the Point Spreads & Picks portion:

  • The most current point spread line (“Vegas”) for the team in question;
  • Whether the team is the current recommendation by PG against the spread at the current line (“PG Pick”). This will be marked Yes or No.
  • A common point spread being used by national pool hosting sites like Yahoo, RunYourPool or OfficeFootballPool in their spread-based contests (“Avg Pool”). This number can be different than the current point spread because contest point spreads usually lock in early in the week, while the actual point spread can change over time, up until kickoff;
  • The Public Pick Popularity number (“Public”), which reflects how the public in contests hosted by those same pool sites are picking games against the spread.

All of those categories are sortable by clicking on the header. The default setting is that games are displayed by “Difference” in pick popularity and the PG Win Odds. If you want to see which teams have the highest win odds by Vegas or PG Odds, or to see which picks are most popular with the Public in spread pools, you can click those headers.

Finally, there are links at the far right of each team line marked “more.” Clicking on that link takes you to the individual matchup pages on our site. You can see additional information such as game time, our pick recommendations, the point totals for the matchup, and a variety of other links and information for the teams involved.
