The PGA Tour heads to Greensboro, North Carolina for the Wyndham Championship at Sedgefield Country Club — the final event of the regular season before the FedEx Cup Playoffs begin. For One and Done pool players, the strategic picture has clarified significantly. You now know your remaining options. You know which events are left. And for many of you, this is the last tournament before the final three-event playoff push.

Wyndham Championship One and Done Picks: Purse Info

The Wyndham Championship carries an $8,500,000 purse, with $1,476,000 going to the winner. That is the lowest purse of the remaining events in most pools, making this a week to assess your top three to four options for the FedEx St. Jude Championship and BMW Championship (to leave yourself some flexibility to close the year) and then make choices from outside that group. We’ll talk about the one exception to that if you read Jason’s pick thoughts at the bottom of this article.

• 145 golfers in the field, with a cut at top 65 and ties.

With three or four events remaining in most pools depending on whether the TOUR Championship is included, this is the moment to assess your situation honestly. The Wyndham is the “guy behind the guys” — the last chance to pick up some money for positioning, before the premium playoff events where the real money is at stake.
• Cameron Young is the defending champion and the clear betting favorite. Young won here in 2025 and arrives as the top-ranked player in the FedEx Cup standings at 3rd overall. He has the best combination of course history, recent form, and odds in the field. The question for most entries is not whether he is a good pick, but whether they can afford to use him here rather than saving him for the St. Jude or BMW.
• Aaron Rai won here in 2024. The defending champion from two years ago enters as one of the more intriguing options, with strong course history and solid recent form. He sits comfortably inside the Top 50 in FedEx points at 35th, based on his win at the PGA Championship, so his motivation here is more about momentum than survival.
• Patrick Cantlay has withdrawn from this week’s field. Cantlay was our second-highest ranked golfer in the field before he withdrew on Monday. His absence opens up some popularity for others in his odds tier.

FedEx Cup Implications This Week

For most of the players in this field, this is not just another tournament. The stakes break down into four clear groups based on the FedEx Points standings:

Those comfortably inside the Top 40 (11)

Led by Cameron Young, there are 11 golfers inside the Top 40 in this week’s Wyndham field. They may be playing here because of course and tournament history (Young and Rai as recent champions as an example), playing to continue recent hot form (like Tom Kim), or guys that are trying to solidify their chances to eventually make the Top 30 and play for the big payouts at the TOUR Championship.

Golfers near the Top 50 cutline (12)

Veterans like Justin Thomas, Eric Cole, Keith Mitchell, Harris English, and Maverick McNealy sit inside the Top 50 and will be among the Top 70 playing at TPC Southwind next week regardless of what happens here. But they have real incentive to play well — a strong Wyndham finish helps build a cushion heading into the St. Jude, where the points are much richer and finishing inside the Top 50 after that event is what actually locks up BMW Championship eligibility and automatic Signature Event status for 2027.

Just on the other side of that line, Jordan Spieth, Sungjae Im, Michael Kim, and Nick Taylor are also extremely likely to be inside the Top 70 and will play in the St. Jude. But they sit between 51st and 61st in FedEx points — close enough to the Top 50 cut line that they need to stack points here and at the St. Jude in order to qualify for next year’s Signature Events.

Top 70 in question: the bubble (11)

All 11 golfers between No. 63 and No. 73 are playing this week, and this constitutes the true bubble, starting with Brian Harman. He is probably safe, but theoretically vulnerable if the leaderboard on Sunday is filled with  several guys currently below him (and he gains no more points).

Jackson Koivun sits at exactly the 70th spot right now, the true cut line, and needs another solid result to guarantee playing next week. The three golfers just beyond that (Mac Meissner, Keegan Bradley, and Andrew Putnam) are close enough that something like a Top 20 finish can push them in, depending on what else happens. They are all within 25 points of Koivun and within 50 points of No. 67 Matti Schmid.

Nearly Everyone Else (100+)

Then there’s (almost) everyone else, golfers who need to turn in a really strong performance. A win can shoot anyone up, as it is worth 500 FedEx Points. We saw this with Koivun, only recently turned pro being at 70th on the strength of his 3M Open win providing nearly all of his 558 points to sit at 70th. We saw this with Michael Thorbjornsen just last week, sitting outside the Top 70 to now very comfortably inside of it.

There are a few in the field where they cannot get in the Top 70 even with a win, but most have enough points that a win shoots them into next week.

But the decay in where they have to finish is pretty steep. Brooks Koepka, for example, is sitting in 86th, but he is over 100 points back. He almost certainly needs a Top 3 finish this week to have any chance. Other big names like Jason Day or Tony Finau need similar top finishes.
