The One and Done party moves to the WM Phoenix Open this week, also known as the “People’s Open” due to the raucous crowds it attracts. This event was removed from the Signature Event rotation last year but still draws many top golfers. That includes World No. 1 Scottie Scheffler, who won this event in 2022 and 2023.

WM Phoenix Open: Golf One And Done Picks Strategy

The WM Phoenix Open is sandwiched on the schedule between two Signature Events. In terms of prize money, it’s in a large group of tournaments one tier below those top events.

The WM Phoenix Open has a total prize purse of $9,200,000, with $1,656,000 going to 1st place.

As a result, you probably don’t want to use a golfer who makes for a top pick in one of the bigger purse events or Majors. The good news is that there are plenty of golfer options, including several ranked inside our Top 50 golfers that make sense.

To see where this tournament’s purse ranks in your specific One And Done pool, set up your pool entry in our Golf One And Done Picks product.

WM Phoenix Open Overview For One And Done Pools

This analysis serves as a complement to the data in our product, which provides customized weekly pick grades considering factors like:

  • The total number of picks you need to make this season
  • The specific tournaments included in your pool
  • The golfers you’ve already picked so far (once the season is underway)

Here are some notable highlights for the 2025 WM Phoenix Open field:

  • 132 golfers are in the field. The field includes 27 golfers ranked inside our Top 50 in Strokes Gained ratings among a field with 132 golfers.
  • Scottie Scheffler headlines the Phoenix Open again. Phoenix is one of the events that Scheffler seems always to play, regardless of the purse size. He won here in 2022 and 2023 while finishing third last year. He missed the cut in his first year on Tour in 2020 but has been Top 10 or better in Phoenix each of the last four years.
  • Justin Thomas, Hideki Matsuyama, Sung-Jae Im, and Sam Burns are top contenders. Four other golfers are ranked inside our Top 20 and are playing this week. All four, led by Thomas, are next in betting odds (behind Scheffler) to win the Phoenix Open.
  • There is a pretty deep field of options. Outside of the top five in odds, this year’s Phoenix Open field includes 22 golfers ranked between No. 20 and No. 50 in our rankings and 24 golfers with implied tournament-winning odds between 1-2%.
  • Nick Taylor is the defending champion. Taylor, who also won this year’s Sony Open, won here last year in a playoff over Charley Hoffman. Other past champions playing this week include Taylor (2024), Scheffler (2023, 2022), Webb Simpson (2020), Rickie Fowler (2019), Gary Woodland (2018), and Hideki Matsuyama (2016 and 2017).
