The PGA Tour’s final tune-up before heading to Augusta is at the Valero Texas Open in San Antonio this week. For One and Done pools, it’s an opportunity to find a golfer trying to win to play their way into the Masters this week. We have a decent number of bigger names using this to prepare for next week, but you will want to be wary of which level of golfer you use.

Valero Texas Open: Golf One And Done Picks Strategy
The Valero Texas Open isn’t a Signature Event, but just like last week’s event in Houston, it ranks in the upper tier of standard tournaments for most One and Done pools.
This week’s total purse is $9.5 million. Of that, $1.71 million will go to the winner.
Given the modest purse, it’s smart to hold off on using your higher-value golfers and save them for bigger events.
To see where this event’s purse ranks in your specific One And Done pool and the tournaments available, set up your pool entry in our Golf One And Done Picks product.

Here are some notable highlights for the 2025 Valero Texas Open and what it means for your One and Done pools:
- 150 golfers are now in the field. Some late withdrawals have us at 150. The top 65 (and ties) will make the cut.
- Akshay Bhatia, Corey Conners, and Jordan Spieth are recent winners. Bhatia won here last year, while Conners and Spieth have also had recent tournament success in San Antonio.
- Ludvig Aberg highlights four Top 15 players in the field. Four golfers ranked in our Top 15 are playing this week: Tommy Fleetwood, Patrick Cantlay, Hideki Matsuyama, and Ludvig Aberg. Cantlay is making his first appearance here, while the others played in this event last year.
- Gary Woodland is coming in off a 2nd-place finish and past success in San Antonio. Gary Woodland surged to a tie for 2nd with Scottie Scheffler last week, behind Min Woo Lee. Woodland last played the Texas Open in 2021 and 2022, finishing in the Top 10 both times.
