The U.S. Open returns to Oakmont in Pennsylvania for the first time in nearly a decade, and the golfers are in for a test. That goes for One and Done pool players, too. We’re heading into the summer stretch, where options are more limited and this event offers one of the biggest prize purses left on the calendar. In short, it’s a critical week.
In this article, we’ll look at Scottie Scheffler, Bryson DeChambeau, Rory McIlroy, Jon Rahm, and other top golfers to consider for your U.S. Open One and Done picks this week.

U.S. Open: One and Done Picks Strategy
As of Monday, the official purse for the 2025 U.S. Open hasn’t been announced. We expect that information to be released later this week. Last year, the U.S. Open featured the largest purse of any major.
In the meantime, check our Data Grid. If the purse amount no longer has an asterisk, it’s been confirmed for 2025 (not just a projection).
Based on last year’s payouts, the U.S. Open ranked just behind the FedEx Playoff events, the Travelers Championship, and the Memorial in prize money. With a projected increase this year, it should be right in that mix, just outside the top two in overall value.
That makes this a strong week to consider using a top golfer, especially in a large-field event that includes a cut.

U.S. Open: Overview for One and Done Pools
This analysis is designed to complement the data in our Golf One and Done Picks product, which provides customized weekly pick grades based on key factors, including:
- How many picks you need to make throughout the season
- Which tournaments are included in your specific pool
- The golfers you’ve already used
With that context in mind, here are some key highlights for the 2025 U.S. Open and what they mean for your One and Done strategy.
-
156 golfers are in the field. The cut will come after two rounds, with the top 60 players and ties advancing to the weekend.
- Keep course history in perspective. The U.S. Open changes venues each year, so the last four editions were all played on different courses. That’s important context when reviewing recent tournament finishes.
-
Scottie Scheffler enters as a substantial favorite. He’s +280 to win and is in excellent form, with victories in two of his last three starts at the PGA Championship and the Memorial. He also finished top five at the Charles Schwab Challenge before sitting out the RBC Canadian Open last week.
-
Bryson DeChambeau bumps Rory McIlroy in the odds. DeChambeau is listed at +700 after a strong run in majors this season. McIlroy, who is typically second only to Scheffler on the odds board, dropped behind following a poor outing (tied for 149th of 153 golfers) at the RBC Canadian Open last week.
