Truist Championship: Golf One and Done Picks Strategy (2025)

One and Done golf pools shift to Philadelphia this week for the Truist Championship, the first PGA event held at this course.

The Truist Championship, formerly known as the Wells Fargo Championship, is taking place at the Philadelphia Cricket Club. This course has never hosted a full PGA Tour event. That’s because Quail Hollow, the usual host in North Carolina, is being used for next week’s PGA Championship.

The course change adds a bit of uncertainty as you make your One and Done picks. Looking at past results won’t help much since they all came from different venues.

We’ll cover some of the top golfers to consider this week, and there’s also a bonus section at the end of the article on the Myrtle Beach Classic, which is also taking place this week.

Truist Championship: Golf One and Done Picks Strategy

When looking at upcoming events, the Truist Championship trails the U.S. Open and The Memorial in purse size (based on last year’s values), but is in line with events like the Travelers Championship and the FedExCup Playoffs. It may also be around the same range as the two other majors, next week’s PGA Championship and The Open in July.

You are justified in using a highly ranked golfer, though you may also want to consider mixing in someone ranked in the 10-20 range if the odds/popularity combination is attractive.

Truist Championship: Overview for One and Done Pools

This analysis serves as a complement to the data in our product, which provides customized weekly pick grades considering factors like:

  • The total number of picks you need to make this season.
  • The specific tournaments included in your pool.
  • The golfers you’ve picked so far.

Here are some notable highlights for the 2025 Truist Championship and what it means for your One and Done pools:

  • 72 golfers are in the field. There is no cut this week, so all players will qualify for the weekend and earn prize money.
  • Scottie Scheffler is skipping this event. He missed it a year ago because of the birth of his son. This time, he chose to play the Byron Nelson last week in the Dallas metro area (where he lives) and will sit this one out before playing in the PGA Championship.
  • Rory McIlroy won this event last year. He is the defending champion, though last year’s win came at a different course. McIlroy also won the Masters in April, the Players Championship in March, and the Pebble Beach Pro-AM in February. He’s won three of the five highest-purse PGA events he has played in 2025, and is the favorite this week.
  • Daniel Berger and Jordan Spieth are surging. Daniel Berger and Jordan Spieth may be ranked lower than their recent form based on past injuries, but both have been playing well of late and should be inside the Top 10 in win odds. Berger was 21st at The Masters and 3rd at the RBC Heritage. Spieth finished 4th at the Byron Nelson and Top 20 at The Masters and RBC Heritage last month.
