PGA Championship: Golf One and Done Picks Strategy (2025)

The PGA Championship is a key event for One and Done golf pools, and several top players have a strong track record at Quail Hollow.

The second major of the 2025 season has arrived, and for One and Done pools, we’re likely at or just past the halfway point of the year. At this stage, your strategy depends heavily on who you’ve already used and where you are in the standings.

Rory McIlroy will look to win for the sixth time at Quail Hollow, the site of this year’s PGA Championship. He’s likely played a key role in entries near the top of the leaderboard and could be a pivotal decision point for those looking to make up ground.

In this article, we’ll take a closer look at McIlroy, Scottie Scheffler, Bryson DeChambeau, and other top golfers to consider for your PGA Championship One and Done pick this week.

PGA Championship: Golf One and Done Picks Strategy

As of Monday, the official purse for the 2025 PGA Championship has not been announced. We expect that information to be released later this week. In the meantime, check our Data Grid. If the purse amount no longer has an asterisk next to it, that means it is the confirmed number for this year and not a projection.

Based on last year’s payouts, the PGA Championship ranked just behind the FedEx Playoff events, the Travelers Championship, the Memorial, and the U.S. Open. With a projected increase, it should be very close in value to those events, falling just outside the top two.

That makes this a strong week to consider using a top golfer, especially in a large-field event that includes a cut.

PGA Championship: Overview for One and Done Pools

This analysis is designed to complement the data in our Golf One and Done Picks product, which provides customized weekly pick grades based on key factors, including:

  • How many picks you need to make throughout the season
  • Which tournaments are included in your specific pool
  • The golfers you’ve already used

With that context in mind, here are some key highlights for the 2025 PGA Championship and what they mean for your One and Done strategy.

  • 156 golfers are in the field. This event traditionally features one of the largest fields of the season. In addition to top players from the PGA Tour and international tours, several club professionals also qualify, creating a unique mix of talent. The top 70 players and ties will make the cut and advance to the weekend.
  • Scheffler and McIlroy lead the way. This is the first tournament that the two favorites have played in together since The Masters. McIlroy sat out the RBC Heritage after his Masters win, while Scheffler skipped last week’s Truist Championship.
  • Xander Schauffele looks to get back on track. Schauffele enters as the defending PGA Championship winner and claimed two majors last year. A rib injury over the winter slowed the start of his 2025 season, but he’s beginning to round back into the form that made him dominant last summer.
  • Bryson DeChambeau could be very popular. DeChambeau has been one of the top-performing LIV golfers in majors over the past year and a half. He finished runner-up to Schauffele at last year’s PGA Championship, marking his second straight top-five finish. DeChambeau then went on to win the U.S. Open. Since he is only available in majors for most One and Done pools, and coming off another strong showing at The Masters, he will likely be one of the most popular options this week.
