This week, Golf One and Done pools turn their attention to The Memorial, Jack Nicklaus’ iconic tournament held in Dublin, Ohio. It features one of the largest remaining purses on the 2025 PGA Tour, making it a pivotal event that could shape the outcome of many One and Done pools.
The field will be loaded with top-tier talent, although one notable absence should be considered. We’ll cover that and highlight the top One and Done picks this week based on where you are in the standings.

The Memorial: Golf One and Done Picks Strategy
The Memorial has the second-largest purse and first-place amount of all remaining events (unless your pool also uses the TOUR Championship). Only the U.S. Open had a larger prize amount last season than the Memorial.
So, you should probably consider using one of your top remaining golfers in this event. The only other consideration is whether you want to switch things up for uniqueness.
After the Memorial, there are only 11 remaining events (in pools ending with the BMW Championship), only five of which have a first-place prize over $3 million. So the number of opportunities to make a big leap in the standings is dwindling. An entry that is $3 to $4 million out of a prize position should consider taking more unique picks to make a comeback, even if that means taking a golfer with slightly lower win odds than other considerations.

The Memorial: Overview for One and Done Pools
This analysis serves as a complement to the data in our product, which provides customized weekly pick grades considering factors like:
- The total number of picks you need to make this season.
- The specific tournaments included in your pool.
- The golfers you’ve picked so far.
Here are some notable highlights for the 2025 Memorial and what it means for your One and Done pools:
- There are 72 golfers in the field. Top 50 make cut. As one of the “player-hosted” Signature Events, the Memorial will feature a cut of the Top 50 (and ties), plus anyone else within 10 strokes of the leader after two rounds.
- Rory McIlroy is sitting this out. After generating some negative press by not speaking to the media after any of the rounds at the PGA Championship, McIlroy will not play in The Memorial for the first time since 2017, opting instead to play in next week’s Canadian Open ahead of the U.S. Open in two weeks.
- Scottie Scheffler is the favorite. A poor start last week kept Scheffler from winning a third in a row, but he still rallied on the weekend for a top-five finish. He comes in as the defending champion and the clear favorite, especially with no McIlroy in the field.
- Collin Morikawa was runner-up here last year. Morikawa was the only one to finish within three strokes of Scheffler at The Memorial a year ago, closing the gap to within a stroke on Sunday. Morikawa last won in the fall of 2023, but has four different second-place finishes at bigger events since that time, including here at the Memorial.
