John Deere Classic: Golf One and Done Picks Strategy (2025)

Golf One and Done pools head to the Midwest this week, as it looks like a wide-open field to win some John Deere Classic green.

Jason Day (AUS) looks over his tee shot on 1 during the first round of Travelers Championship at TPC River Highlands on June 19, 2025, in Cromwell, Connecticut.

The July One and Done schedule kicks off with the John Deere Classic at TPC Deere Run in the Quad Cities — the final PGA Tour event in the U.S. before the overseas swing to Scotland.

With its spot on the calendar and the holiday weekend, the John Deere Classic draws few top-ranked golfers, as most head straight to the Scottish Open to prep for The Open. Still, two of our Top 30 golfers (Ben Griffin and Jason Day) are in the field, along with several others chasing a spot inside the FedEx Cup Top 70 with the playoffs just a month away.

John Deere Classic: Golf One and Done Picks Strategy

The John Deere Classic features a total prize purse of $8.4 million, with $1,512,000 going to the winner.

While the prize purse is on the lower end, we’re nearing the finish line. Most One and Done pools only have three high-purse events left, so decisions often come down to who you have left and which contenders are playing. For example, Ben Griffin becomes a viable option if you have at least three solid plays reserved for the bigger upcoming events.

John Deere Classic: Overview for One and Done Pools

This analysis serves as a complement to the data in our product, which provides customized weekly pick grades considering factors like:

  • The total number of picks you need to make this season.
  • The specific tournaments included in your pool.
  • The golfers you’ve picked so far.

Here are some notable highlights for the 2025 John Deere Classic and what it means for your One and Done pools:

  • 156 players with Top 65 and ties making the cut. This is a standard full-field PGA event with typical cut rules.
  • It’s a wide-open event. With Ben Griffin being the only golfer inside our Top 20, he has the relative shortest odds, but the event should be considered one of the more open competitions on the Tour.
  • Davis Thompson won here last year. It remains his only PGA Tour win to date.
  • Jason Day and Denny McCarthy are other notable names in the field. Jason Day leads the field in Strokes Gained among players with multiple starts in the past month, thanks to a 4th-place finish at the Travelers and 23rd at the U.S. Open. Denny McCarthy, meanwhile, has three straight Top-10 finishes at the John Deere Classic. They’re our next-highest ranked golfers behind Ben Griffin and also sit next in line by win odds.
