Houston Open: Golf One And Done Picks Strategy
The Houston Open isn’t a Signature Event, but it still ranks in the upper tier of standard tournaments for most One and Done pools.
This week’s total purse is $9.5 million. Of that, $1.71 million will go to the winner.
Because of the modest purse, it’s wise to resist the urge to use one of the top two golfers this week. Outside of them, though, most other players are fair game.

Houston Open: Overview For One And Done Pools
This analysis serves as a complement to the data in our product, which provides customized weekly One and Done pick grades considering factors like:
- The total number of picks you need to make this season
- The specific tournaments included in your pool
- The golfers you’ve already picked so far
Here are some notable highlights for the 2025 Houston Open and what it means for your One and Done pools:
- 156 golfers are in the field. It’s a full-field event with 156 golfers competing. The top 65 (and ties) will make the cut.
- Rory McIlroy joins Scottie Scheffler in Houston: Scheffler plays here regularly, finishing 2nd in the last two years, while McIlroy will play in this event for the first time in over a decade.
- Six other players in our Top 30 are playing: Aaron Rai has consecutive Top 10 finishes at the Houston Open and is our third-highest-ranked golfer in the field. J.J. Spaun has surged up to 21st in our rankings with his hot start to 2025. Other highly ranked golfers in the field include Sung-Jae Im, Jason Day, Si Woo Kim, and Taylor Pendrith.
- Tony Finau has done well here: Finau won the Houston Open in 2023 and tied for 2nd last year behind Stephen Jaeger. Finau is No. 34 in our overall rankings and should be among the Top 10 favorites this week based on his play at this course.
- Jacob Bridgeman is on a roll: Bridgeman had never recorded a Top 10 on the PGA Tour, but a strong fall with three Top 15s sparked a breakout. He’s followed that up with a runner-up finish at the Valspar, 15th at the Arnold Palmer Invitational, and 3rd at last week’s Cognizant Classic.
