There are plenty of tournaments on the PGA Tour each season, but this one might be the toughest “challenge” for One and Done players. Yep, we’re talking about the Charles Schwab Challenge.

It’s happening at Colonial this week in Fort Worth, TX — and Scottie Scheffler is back in the field, fresh off two straight wins, including a third major title at the PGA Championship.

However, with the lower purse value in this event, you probably want to consider someone besides Scheffler. So, where should you pivot?

Charles Schwab Challenge: Golf One and Done Picks Strategy

The Charles Schwab Challenge has a total prize purse of $9.5 million, with $1,710,000 awarded to the first-place winner.

It’s a non-Signature Event, so the purse size is well below upcoming events like next week’s Memorial or the U.S. Open. It resembles upcoming June events like the RBC Canadian Open and the Rocket Mortgage Classic.

Charles Schwab Challenge: Overview for One and Done Pools

This analysis serves as a complement to the data in our product, which provides customized weekly pick grades considering factors like:

  • The total number of picks you need to make this season.
  • The specific tournaments included in your pool.
  • The golfers you’ve picked so far (once the season is underway).

Here are some highlights for the 2025 Charles Schwab Challenge and what it means for your One and Done pools:

  • As an invitational but full-field event, 135 golfers are in the field. That makes it slightly smaller than some of the other non-Signature Events.
  • Scottie Scheffler is the big favorite to go three in a row. Scheffler is again playing in Texas, and he has finished Top 3 here the last three times he has played the Colonial. He is the biggest draw, though there are some other ranked golfers in the field.
  • Daniel Berger leads former champions in current form. Thanks to his form in 2025, Berger has moved up to No. 17 in our golfer rankings, and he won this event in 2020. Davis Riley won the event last year, and Jordan Spieth has three different runner-up finishes and won this event in 2016.
  • Other contenders have been playing well recently. Some other names that show up near the top have been playing well over the last month, including Harris English, J.T. Poston, Tommy Fleetwood, and Si Woo Kim. English, Poston, and Kim were all on the leaderboard on Sunday at the PGA Championship.
