These are notes of significant changes to our 2024 Best Ball Rankings (and sometimes, notes on what we aren’t changing).
We will post a list of players that have seen notable changes, with notes as to why, as well as any other impacts on other players.
Our rankings officially launched on May 16th, and will be updated regularly.
One word on the adjustments: a lot of time, there is no adjustment. That may be particular true in the early part of the summer when there is a lot of time remaining, the players aren’t actually practicing, and so forth. A lot of the market line movement can be over-reactionary, and the best teams can sometimes be built by being willing to ride the immediate reaction wave.
For example, plenty of players will be reported with injuries early in the preseason, something that commonly happens as they ramp back up into football shape. We are not going to downgrade all players on initial reports of injury alone. Severity of injury matters, and likelihood that it extends into the regular season. We saw some cases where the market reacted in the short term and provided buying opportunities, and others, like Cooper Kupp’s injury that lingered into the season and impacted the performance for the season.
Some of the biggest values in recent years have come on players with early camp injuries that were not serious, but created discounts on players. Also, Week 1 of the regular season is by far the easiest week to get replaceable scores in Best Ball on a star player (no one is on a bye, and the rest of team is likely healthier than it will be later).
